I watched Taking Chance on DVD last night. I didn’t know much about the movie prior to watching it. It kept popping up as a suggestion on Netflix so I thought, “What the heck.”, and had it sent to me.
To say this is a powerful movie is an understatement. I was caught off guard by the emotion it brought out of me. I challenge anyone to watch this movie and not have watery eyes by the end. That it was based on a true story only adds to it’s impact.
Leave out the politics of whether we should or shouldn’t be in Iraq, watch it to see how the remains of the men and women in our armed forces are treated on the journey to their final resting place. I didn’t know all that was involved, the care, the respect, and the dignity.
Kevin Bacon does a great job in this movie. He certainly has the role of the serviceman down pat. Two of his other military films that come to mind are “A Few Good Men” and “Frost vs. Nixon”.
If you do watch it, another must-see is in the special features section. It’s a featurette titled “Bearing Witness”. It goes a few steps further than the film with the real people portrayed in the movie.
